UCC/EAN-14 Barcode
EAN-14, also known as UCC-14, is an implementation of the
GS1-128 barcode symbology with AI (01) that is typically
used to encode a GTIN-14.
The code is always 14 numeric digits long:
- The first two numbers are the Application Identifier
of the GS1-128: (01).
- The first digit is the "Logistic Variant", also
named as "Packaging indicator".
- The next 12 digits are representing the product
number. General this the EAN-13 number without the check
digit.
- The last digit is the check digit.
Data and Options
- The data field input is provided in GS1 Application
Identifier standard format and must be a solitary AI
(01) with thirteen or fourteen digits of a GTIN, i.e.
(01)....
- Arbitrary spacing may be placed between the digits
to format the human readable text without interfering
with the encoded data.
- If thirteen digits of primary data are supplied then
the check digit is calculated automatically. Otherwise
the provided check digit will be verified.
