EAN/JAN-8 Barcode
EAN-8 is an EAN/UPC symbology barcode and is derived from
the longer EAN-13 code. It was introduced for use on small
packages where an EAN-13 barcode would be too large. It
usually carries a GTIN-8.
Also known as: UCC-8, JAN-8.
EAN-8 encodes eight numbers, consisting of two country-code digits, five data digits, and one check digit.
Variants:
- EAN-8+2 is an extension of EAN-8 that includes a
two-digit add-on, named EAN-2.
- EAN-8+5 is an extension of EAN-8 that includes a
five-digit add-on, named EAN-5.
- EAN-13 is a longer variant of EAN-8 which has a
distinct number system based on GTIN-13.
